There’s gold in them there hills – a gem of a find.

Flipping through the AAA travel book (wonderful tip from Laura and Michael Hynes) we stumbled upon Sonora Caverns in Sonora, Texas. What a treat. Nice RV park in wide open spaces. Privately owned with peacocks, some round turkey looking birds and other wildlife. We had a young cowgirl for a tour guide. While talking with her we learned she met her soon to be hubby on farmersonly.com, she was a vet tech for deer and works with her fiancé. She was telling us she was a bit scared to go to Mexico on her honeymoon because she couldn’t take her gun with her. The stalagmites and stalactites were amazing. There was one that looked like an onion ring, one that looked like athlete, one that looked like a dinosaur. The piece de résistance was a beautiful butterfly. The plot thickens: in November 2006 after a tour was over the last person in the tour had taken a photo of the butterfly. The next tour noticed the large wing was missing. Through deductive reasoning they realized a 19 year old man had waited until the last person of his tour left, climbed over the ropes and broke off the wing. After they tracked him down and found his name they found him on FaceBook and there he was with a picture of himself holding up the wing. It turned into a federal offense with a fine up to $500,000 and he has been on the run ever since. There is also a $20,000 reward offered.  It’s amazing how people always want the thing they can’t have. It’s been going on since the beginning of time. .
